National Flood Forum

A GROUP dedicated to helping people in flood risk areas has launched a new membership scheme.

The National Flood Forum raises the awareness of flood risks, helps people and communities to protect themselves and supports those who have endured the misery of flooding.

But it needs members to continue this crucial work and is asking people to join up.

National Flood Forum chief executive Paul Cobbing said: 'This is a new venture that provides an opportunity to support the crucial work that the Forum does to help people prepare for flooding and recover from its impacts.

'Flooding has a terrible impact on people's lives. Not only is there the trauma of the flood itself and its impact on people's homes and health, but the months that it can take for people to put their lives back together can often be worse than the flood itself and its impacts can last a lifetime.

'Flooding is increasing and more people are being affected. Now there are 5.5 million homes at risk - that's 1 in 6 households and a recent report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation called Climate Change, Justice and Vulnerability, indicates that this is likely to increase still further. Therefore, the work that the National Flood Forum does is becoming even more important.

The yearly cost will be just £25 for individuals, £100 for flood action groups with bronze (£500), silver (£1,000) and gold (price on application) packages for businesses.

In return individuals will receive an:

  • Invitation to the annual conference at a significant discount.
  • A newsletter twice a year.
  • An opportunity to contribute to consultations, events and questionnaires
  • Future access to a members only area of the National Flood Forum website where there will be information on other groups and an opportunity to share experiences and get advice and support along with early notice of events.
  • The opportunity to volunteer to help and support the National Flood Forum to do its work, even manning the new flood support trailer at events.
