THEY were not designed to deal with car crashes, but a FloodSax® stopped a serious environmental problem after a smash in America.
Salesman Darin Waldner was driving near to Mitchell in South Dakota when a car overtaking him struck a fender left in the road after a tyre had burst on another vehicle and ripped it off. The other driver was unable to swerve and struck the fender which punctured his fuel tank.
Both cars pulled over and Darin quickly deployed five FloodSax® he had in the back of his vehicle. He placed them under the stricken car which had a two-inch gash in its tank and they soaked up the fuel. The driver had only just filled up so it took all five FloodSax® to stop the fuel leaking into the ground.
Darin, who works for Dakota Pump and Control, said: “The emergency manager showed up shortly after the entire tank had drained away with most of it being soaked up by the FloodSax®. He looked around and said ‘well guys, we aren’t going to have to excavate this site as enough of the fuel got soaked up by those bags underneath the car.’
“So the FloodSax® saved a construction crew from coming out and digging up the area to dispose of the contaminated fuel. Just one five pack of bags was able to save countless hours and resources. What would be diverted if everyone had a pack in their cars?’’
