Representatives of responders under the Civil Contingencies Act in the southeast of England were invited to the trials to obtain first hand knowledge of the product, FloodSax®. A total of 76 observers attended the trials.
This trial showed that there was a future for this type of technology to replace or supplement traditional sandbags. The trial provided evidence that the manual handling risks associated with sandbags could be reduced along with the storage and transportation costs.
These early versions absorbed some 9 litres of water and it was recognised that they could be used as an immediate first aid for blocking of air bricks and, in quantity, offering some protection to doorways.
